Woa been a long time since the last giveaway.
Hmm... What to do? ;)

Sssh, I hear something coming.

News and Updates / Gun Mettle, Contracts, and Official Servers.
« on: July 02, 2015, 03:34:42 PM »
Warning: Big long useless rant incoming. Skip to last paragraph for actual important servers changes.
Awesome! The TF2 Dev team just released a big update, with a lot of server fixes, balance changes (for good or bad, we'll see), a new map and CS:GO style 3 months campaigns that includes Contracts.. err, wait, CS:GO style campaigns?!

Yes, that's right. What should be a fantastic patch (as in, finally more content instead of just new skins, hats, and taunts) is only disappointing, at least if you're the owner of a community server. This is MvM all over again: community servers will not be participating in Contracts, and obviously no rewards whatsoever. You will have to play on official Valve servers for that.

We've already received the reason (though it's been the same for two years now): Valve is afraid of cheating server owners, plugin coders, and other dishonest individuals. Their solution, every single time, is to simply cut all community servers from participating. That's the way things have been for CS:GO for a while, and that's how it's going to be for TF2 from now on, as I'm sure these new Campaigns will be extremely profitable, for both Valve and maps/models makers.

Instead of simply trying to find some kind of compromise, fixing their engine, tracking and punishing communities that cheat the system, they opt for the "nuclear option" (their words) Fallout style. It's sad, because that means I'll have to go play on some random Valve server, with strangers and potentially actual cheaters, until I've completed my weekly contracts and then come back to Hyperion. It's sad, because these kind of updates could really help the communities grow, especially small or new ones. But hey, we don't want to drop the prices of these ultra-rare level 5 kills-counting Strange special collection guns, now do we? The Steam market needs to stay pure. Oh and I urge you to read this update's comic; I think they don't even try to be ironic in these anymore.

Rant over. Sorry.

Still, it's a big patch, with a lot of very cool changes that all servers benefit from, and we really needed some changes as TF2 was getting a bit stale compared to other recent big releases.

No changes were made to the Payload server.

I've changed the Full Rotation server to a Gun Mettle server. This means it will go through the 4 maps introduced this patch, and follows the Gun Mettle gameplay changes. If it were an official server, Contracts would be live, but it's not, so don't expect your Campaign Coin to track anything while playing with us. You need to go on an official Valve server for that.

The above change is not permanent, it will depend on the server's traffic and popularity. We might add more maps to the rotation in the future, but I'm not sure we're allowed to if we wish to "participate" in this new Campaign.

Feel free to voice your thoughts and opinions, about this update, and the changes to our 2nd TF2 server.
Finally, I'll be starting our Summer Giveaway "campaign" soon. Probably next week, I still need to get back home ;) I hope you guys enjoy this new update! See you in-game!

General Discussion / Re: Can't join server. Old Version of TF2

Strange. But I'm glad it's working for you now :)

I've checked for potential new updates and even joined the servers. I don't have any issues whatsoever.
Make sure your client has all the required updates. Maybe try to verify game cache.

Servers Feedback / Re: HELP

Hmm, I'm sorry ObliviousEagle, but you're not in our Verified Member database, at least on the account you're posting with right now.

What's your SteamID? Maybe you've used a different account here before. I can check for you.
Otherwise, you'll just have to submit another VM application.

Payload Server / Re: Nominate
« on: May 30, 2015, 12:01:22 AM »
Adding the nominate plugin to our current mapchooser system might be a bit complicated. It would be easier to add the new custom maps to the mapchooser itself. We're still evaluating which of all the new maps added are actually fun enough to be on the mapchooser list.

I'm not saying no to the nominate plugin in the future... it just requires a lot of testing to make sure it doesn't conflict with our current mapchooser system.

General Discussion / Re: Killing Floor 2 Early Access
« on: May 18, 2015, 12:27:08 PM »
I agree, but I'm bored of the current EA content. I hope they add more maps/perks/anything soon ;)

General Discussion / Re: Killing Floor 2 Early Access

Right, more maps, more bosses, more enemies and definitely more perks are needed. The game is very stable for an Early Access game, but it's very repetitive right now. Plus, I'm not sure if they're going to wipe all class progress or not, so I'm not playing the EA anymore.

Suggestions / Re: Hyperion GTAO Crew?
« on: April 22, 2015, 07:10:17 PM »
Well, I'm going to wait for a sale for GTA5. I have already purchased Killing Floor 2 and Witcher 3, so I doubt I'll get GTA5 before the Summer Sales. Again, I'm not sure how the crew system actually works in this game, but feel free to that a crew and we can advertise it on the Steam group and here if there's enough interest.

General Discussion / Killing Floor 2 Early Access
« on: April 21, 2015, 07:03:18 PM »
Just to let you guys know that I've setup a Killing Floor 2 server this morning for Early Access. It doesn't mean that server will be permanent, but with Natural Selection 2 being out of the picture, I figured we had some room left on the machine to try something new.

You can find the server in the server browser: EA1 (IP:
I might add another one later depending on activity.

HF ;)

(And KF2 is looking really good so far. The EA is a bit limited, only 3 maps and could really use more weapons, but pretty fun overall for a wave based arena FPS. It is in EA, but the game is very polished, only maps/weapons/bosses are missing really.)

General Discussion / Re: KICK AFK DONORS IN SPEC
« on: April 13, 2015, 09:43:49 PM »
Right, but remember every time a donor/admin uses the reserved slots (if server is full of course) someone gets kicked. The system will try to avoid kicking VMs (regulars), but I'd like to avoid kicking players too often. Again, if I find a workaround the current system, that can be adjusted later on based on feedback.

General Discussion / Re: KICK AFK DONORS IN SPEC
« on: April 13, 2015, 12:10:32 PM »
I'll see what I can do. The current system doesn't work well for a timelimit, it's either complete immunity to the AFK kicker or none. Since it is a donor perk, the AFK kick immunity has to be somewhat significant, but it's true it can be "abused" and penalize one team.

While I try to figure out a workaround, feel free to continue this discussion. From what I've read so far, 5 min seems too low, 30 min too long. Somewhere between 10 min and 20 min then. Obviously, if I figure a workaround within the current system, it will be easy to adjust that number later on, so there's room for experimentation.

Complains/Bans / Re: Map switching
« on: April 05, 2015, 12:59:40 AM »
Hey Snake Doctor,

I've replied to your PM, so please make sure to check your inbox.
In short, it was likely a Rock the Vote triggered by players, as no admin present during that game used the force change map command (nothing in the logs, and I talked to the admin).

Admins do not force change map (especially during a full server) without first asking players. Or sometimes because there are plugins/map/server issues that require a map change to refresh, but usually I'm the one that do it and I announce it via console.

News and Updates / Re: NS2 Server Shutting Down Soon
« on: April 03, 2015, 11:45:31 AM »
That's it. The 2nd NS2 server is gone.

News and Updates / Re: NS2 Server Shutting Down Soon
« on: April 01, 2015, 11:20:37 PM »
It's finally time to shut the NS2 servers down.

On April 3rd, the *New* NS2 server will disappear. I don't think many of you will even notice. Natural Selection 2 is a great game (with a poorly optimized engine sadly), but the devs took too long to get the game out, and haven't been able to keep/increase their player base.

It's actually pretty amazing how Valve still keeps TF2 relevant, even though the game is a lot older than NS2. Then again, TF2 is F2P and has a "thriving hats economy".

The other NS2 server (the old one) might remain for a bit longer, but not for long either. The *New* NS2 server was actually a separate cost from our TF2 servers, while the old one is already included, so running the old NS2 server doesn't actually cost more. Still, if nobody is playing on it, keeping it running is useless.

I'll let you guys know when the old server will be shut down as well.

Now for some good news:
With the NS2 servers going away, it means we're cutting down our monthly costs by $50 or so. That means we'll need less money from you guys to keep the TF2 servers running :) (and as usual, if we get more $ than we need, we'll keep making giveaways!)
