With only dustbowl, gorge and mountainlab it gets somewhat boring. Unfortunately the other official maps (Gravelpit, Egypt, Steel, Junction) makes it hard to keep the server full during the day, and usually empties out the server /sigh. But soon we will be testing out new custom attack/defense maps!
We won't be adding 5CP maps for now as the player-type is really different for 5CP vs A/D. With 5CP you have to both attack and defend, and the rounds are slower and longer (10mins everytime a point is capped). This is the same reason why people who play PL also do not like PLR maps. 5CP is just a category for a different type of playerbase--which we would like to tap into--someday...
So here are some interesting Attack/Defense maps, post your own suggestions as well. and dont forget to vote!!!

How about a 24h dustbowl server? No way?
-
An old favorite of mine is Degroot Keep. Melee CP map.
-
As much as I also like degroot for that interesting melee twist on tf2, it would more than likely be a server killer because that's a very unique niche map.
-
@Nico hehe there's too many 24/7 dustbowl already.
edit:
- removed CaveIn as that's a 5CP map
- removed Jinx as the textures have not been optimized, sudden huge decrease in fps in some angles, also map is very convoluted and confusing.
-
Okay we're adding custom maps and it should be available tomorrow:
Custom Maps Group:
(will only show from 3pm-9pm pst)
- Castle (2 rounds)
- Frontline (3 rounds)
- Morra's Castle (2 rounds)
- Hotrod (2 rounds)
- Gydan (2 rounds)
Official maps:
- Dustbowl (40 mins I think)
- Gorge (3 rounds)
- Mountainlab (3 rounds)
-
Yeah baby! *fist pump*
Danke. So happy. :)
-
Frontline seems very nice.
Can I suggest to simply remove mountainlab? I don't like it and it's my personal opinion.
Do you guys like it so much?
-
I don't know how many more official maps we can remove. We already took out steel, gravelpit, egypt, junction. Once we add the voting system (soon, maybe tomorrow) it'll be better I think.
-
Server died on Gorge and Mountain Lab yesterday. It really seems like people only care about Dustbowl.
-
I've observed that even dustbowl can't sustain it if it gets too late. The server is just too new I think. Just have to give it more time to develop it's own regulars and stuff.
I think a lot of us really expect it to be active like the PL server is. But let's try to be realistic and remember that the PL server took years to get to that state. I think we're doing good for a new server that's only been out a couple of weeks, especially with quickplay being pushed to the side by valve.
-
Hmm I'm getting a couple of people complaining the server kicks them out when the map changes and they don't have the map. I think some of enforcer's friends were like that before, I wonder what causes that.
-
They need to make sure they allow custom content from the server.
To check:
TF2 > Go to Options > Multiplayer Tab > Look at the bottom, and select in the menu:
Allow all custom content from server.
(cl_downloadfilter "all"
cl_allowdownload "1" in console)
If that doesn't work, it would be useful to know what kind of errors they received. Did they get a Connection Timed out error? "Can't find map file: cp_custommap"?
-
People are getting more an more antsy with the lack of maps. If we do not fix soon, we may lose some along the way.
Someone brought up a good point I think we need to implement as well.
The map vote options should us the F keys rather than the 1-0 keys. I think a lot of people vote for maps when all they were doing in game was trying to switch weapons. Using F5-F8, we'd know the votes will be true votes, as you have to go out of your way to hit those keys. It would help us get better statistics of what people want to play/like. Make weeding out weak (server killer) maps easier without whittling it down to just a few maps.
I guess, I'm saying I think we need to start over with the maps, using the better vote options. Possible?
-
I've been pretty busy lately, so I haven't had time to work on the CP server mapchooser plugin. The server has been empty the past couple of days, I'm not entirely sure if it's the lack of maps, but we can try. It's been difficult to know which maps are actually popular and which aren't.
--
We're using a different mapchooser plugin for the CP server for several reasons (...), and unfortunately, it doesn't use the default Valve vote system (F keys). I'll see what I can do.

We really need to deal with the map issue on the server.
People, including myself are tiring of the same (3) map(s) cycle. I try and invite people and have been told point blank some don't like A/D and would happily help start the server if better maps were available. Others just get bored cycling the same 3 maps. People have been asking, though not here but in game for more CP(5) maps. (Enforcer and I do try and point them to the forums but you know how that goes.)
Enforcer and I were talking in game and we thing a mix of (more) stock and customs maps would help things along. People chimed in in agreement.
I think we need to set up the server with some of the most popular maps, and leave them on, even if they appear to kill the server. People leave on map change. Sometimes due to the next map, sometimes, they are just done playing and map change is a good excuse to leave. I know I like to leave then myself at times too.
Maybe set up the map vote for 3 stock and 1 custom each vote? With each new map vote, a new custom. I don't know, just throwing stuff out there hoping it sticks so to speak.
Long live Hyperion! 8)

That AND the ability to change maps if they are causing the server to die. If the admin in charge DOES do this, they should log it and keep a record so that we can gather some conclusive data on which maps are generally more preferable. Once the server becomes more stable, that command can either be removed or reserved.
My 2 cents.

Yes, it seems the 3 map rotation isn't working well, but it was expected. This rotation was only temporary anyway. Chainspell added a bunch of CP (A/D only I think) custom maps to the server a while back. I'll add the mapchooser plugin (with RTV) with 3 stocks / 1 custom format as soon as I can.
We've been able (with you guys help) to start the server, the problem is players quickly leave. I'm assuming it's because the rotation is too small, but I'm sure some stock maps (in both A/D and regular CP) are server killer as well. We'll have to go through them, I'm afraid, and see which ones we should just not bother (at least at first). Payload server had to go through this phase at one point. The map rotation was limited (5-6 maps I think) with badwater/goldrush repeating often. Sure, it was boring for some regulars (admins! :) ), but when thundermountain or hoodoo came up, everybody just left, even those that actually voted for the map. So, we would just change the map back to badwater to try to get players back on, etc...
--
Let's give it a try, but we really need to figure out which maps we need to take out of the rotation until we've really developed a real following/regulars "core". Then, we can add these less popular maps back because the "core" will outnumber the "random/quickplayers" and they'll stick around.
ETA for the mapchooser: 1-3 days, I'll do my best. It's easy to install back in, it's difficult to get the configuration "right".

Awesome, thanks Plasma. :)
-
I dunno... I still love Badwater! Real nice balanced map for a 32 player server :)
