So I don't know about you guys, but HL remains one of my favorite PC games up this day. I was really disappointed when I played through HL:Source... I mean even Blue Shift (which wasn't all that great, compared to GearBox Opposing Force) high-res'd the graphics and models pretty well. And finally, for real this time (I hope), the mod team behind the real HL remake Black Mesa has said they will release the mod on September 14th. They say the final part of the game is still missing though, the first release will end at the end of the Lambda Core level and before... urgh, Xen.

Anybody else will play HL one more time? (while we wait for HL3...  ;) )

				 ???

-
You know, I never played half-life 1 for real. I always cheated. It kind of ruined the whole game for me. But I liked opposing force a lot.

-
				Never played it before.

-
Damn, well, I guess better later than never... and graphics won't look as dated with this new mod. Hopefully :) It's been in development for years, it was almost vaporware at one point.

-
They should have just released what they had a long time ago instead of dicking around with it for years and years. Bet you all of my hats it'll be another Duke Nukem Forever.

-
				All da hats!  :D

-
I don't think so Cirno. Release in 11 days now. If what they say is true, and the first version will include everything right before the ... Xen jumping puzzles, then they don't have a lot to do to finish the game.

What I love with game sequels is being able to play them all in a row (especially if there's a story continuation) see: The Witcher 1 and 2, KotOR 1 and 2, BioShock 1 and 2, Batman Arkham Asylum/City, Dead Space 1 and 2, Portal 1 and 2, Mass Effect 1, 2 and sigh 3. etc... However, HL is one of these franchise that I'd love to play back to back (to back to back... ooh, Episode 3/HL3... how many more hats do we need to buy to satiate your thirst!), but the difference between HL1 and HL2 in terms of graphics and model resolution is so wide that it's almost like you're playing two different games, and it breaks the continuity factor... at least for me.

Maybe I'm going to be disappointed when I get to play the Black Mesa mod. Maybe it sucks, maybe the models don't look right, and the maps are buggy. Maybe I'll feel like I want to play the original more... We'll see. But I'm re-installing Opp Force, Blue Shift (with high rez models!), HL2, Ep1, Ep2 and Lost Coast just because.

I don't get the hate for Blue Shift. It's just as good as OpFor.

Edit: Half-Life 2 is on sale. IT'S A SIGN. But seriously, who the hell doesn't already own HL2?
-
				played all 3.

opposing force and vanilla was cool, but my favorite was blue shift.  i was always extremely conservative. i beat the game with like a million magnum bullets and those little troll attacking bugs that you let loose, i always like those ilttle bugs and i never wanted to give them away. =)

i dont remember which one but there is another levels that you go up in those icy mountains looking for a moth (moths) and you go to the circus also to find a moth, i liked that one too , its been so long , your freeman when you do the missions if that helps

edit: played when i was little so it was kinda cruel.   i would put satchel charges on my npc team in opposing force and blow them up in the middle of battles so they would retaliate and make it more dramatic/pew pew pew while fighting aliens/ninja goverment black gear people   >.>

i dont remember the story line too well and i havent played half life 2 but i always thought it was cool that the humans and the aliens were like "neutral" but they kinda werent at the same time, reminded me of men in black.  then again i read the lore a long while back so i could be wrong.

Half Life is one of my favorite FPS of all time. I played it a couple of months after it was released, and it was amazing back then. Sure, if you've never played it and try it today, you might be a bit disappointed, but the level design, the enemies and weapons are still some of the best in my opinion. I really hope the Black Mesa remake is going to be fun.

And, wizard, you need to play HL2. Here's my plan. I'm going to play Black Mesa, then HL2, Episode 1 and 2. Then, Valve will release HL3. I mean, they have to at this point right? :)

Source SDK Base 2007 installed. SSD space cleared. Hot Pockets in the freezer.

 MY BODY IS READY
-
				OK

Haha. So now that it's been GreenLight, will it be released at midnight on Steam?

I'm ready to jump on the Black Mesa Transit System.

This automated train is provided for the security and convenience of the Black Mesa Research Facility personnel. The time is eight-forty seven A.M... Current outside temperature is ninety three degrees with an estimated high of one hundred and five. The Black Mesa compound is maintained at a pleasant sixty-eight degrees at all times.

This train is inbound from Level Three dormitories to Sector C Test Labs and Control Facilities. If your intended destination is a high security area beyond Sector C, you will need to return to the Central Transit hub in Area Nine and board a high security train.

If you have not yet submitted your identity to the retinal clearance system, you must report to Black Mesa personel for processing before you will be permitted into the high security branch of the transit system. Due to the high toxicity of material routinely handled in the Black Mesa compound, no smoking, eating, or drinking are permitted within the Black Mesa Transit System. Please keep you limbs inside the train at all times. Do not attempt to open the doors until the train has come to a complete halt at the station platform. In the event of an emergency, passengers are to remain seated and await further instruction. If it is necessary to exit the train, disabled personnel should be evacuated first. Please, stay away from electrified rails, and proceed to an emergency station until assistance arrives.

A reminder that the Black Mesa Hazard Course decathlon will commence this evening at 1900 hours in the Level Three facility. The semi-finals for high security personnel will be announced in a separate secure access transmission. Remember, more lives than your own may depend on your fitness. Do you have a friend or relative who make a valuable addition to the Black Mesa team? Immediate openings are available in the areas of "Materials Handling" and "Low Clearance Security." Please contact Black Mesa personnel for further information. If you have an associate with a background in the areas of "Theoretical Physics," "Biotechnology," or other high-tech disciplines, please contact our civilian recruitment division. The Black Mesa Research Facility is an equal-opportunity employer.

A reminder to all Black Mesa personnel: Regular radiation and biohazard screenings are a requirement of continued employment in the Black Mesa Research Facility. Missing a scheduled urinalisys or radiation check-up is grounds for immediate termination. If you feel you have been exposed to radioactive or other hazardous materials in the course of your duties, contact your radiation safety officer immediately.

Work safe, work smart. Your future depends on it.

Now arriving at Sector C Test Labs and Control Facilities. Please stand back from the automated door and wait for the security officer to verify your identity. Before exiting the train, be sure to check your area for personal belongings. Thank you, and have a very safe, and productive day.

Shit, did you do that from memory?

-
I tried to remember the tram intro without looking it up online... and I did a pretty good job. I failed at the third paragraph though... the part with the retinal scanner.
I've downloaded the game, it's installed... now I wait for the night to begin my HL adventure. This is going to be epic.

PS: if the servers crash tonight, well... I'll be dealing with a resonance cascade, so that's way more important.
-
I couldn't wait. So I played a bit, just wanted to see the tram sequence. But turns out, it's tough to stop. So, I've played for a lot longer, and it's awesome. It really feels like Valve would have made exactly this same version if they had the Source engine back then.

It is the original HL, but they really improved on everything. They even added special puzzles with physics, a lot more scientist dialogues, tonnes of easter eggs, and more. Anyway, I have to force myself to keep playing...
-
I'm installing it now. I sure hope they know game design better than they know game distribution.

The torrent is flagged as private, and instead of using a self-extracting exe, they have an installer that extracts 7zip to %temp% to run it on the .7z. :-\
-
Indeed, and the torrent download server wasn't even working for a long while. When installing, my anti-virus kept giving me warnings.

-
Weird, I had no problems what so ever. Downloaded from the torrent, took 2 hours. I launched the installer, and it installed itself in my steam folder in sourcemods. Then it asked me if I wanted to start the game and it worked.

The only thing you need to do first is to install Source SDK 2007 from the Tools menu.
-
I still don't get what the blast doors in "We've got hostiles!" are supposed to do. :-X

-
				 :-\

-
Made it to Surface Tension. I'll stop on the dam.
Now this is getting harder. I'm playing on Hard, and it is.
-
				And I'm done!
Too bad it's missing the last part, even if it's the worst part of the game... Xen.

Anyway, I highly recommend everybody to download the mod and play it. Whether you've played the original Half Life or you haven't. If you enjoy single player FPS, you can't do a lot worse than Black Mesa. And it's free! Just one thing: if you're not very good at FPS, play on Normal or Easy. Hard is quite hard, it is definitely a challenge. As for tips: remember to use your crowbar to break all crates, they contain goodies. Also, F6 to quicksave. Quicksave often, but not when you're very low on health and when you're in combat. If you quicksave right before you die, that usually means you have to restart from an autosave point, which sucks. And as usual, keep multiple save files.

Now, I just hope we'll see Xen soon. Then I'll be able to start my HL2 playthrough ;)
-
I did it! I made it off the tram! That was intense

-
				Nop~
