The * on rotation does not work at the moment.
I'll try to fix it tomorrow.  :)

I received my VM status the day after I registered on the forums or so, but I just realized that I only have the * in one server and not the other (rotation). I don't know if others also have this or if that is how it was supposed to be, but I thought I'd check.

We released an alpha version of the program. You can read about it all here.
Again, this is still very alpha stuff. Follow the instructions, the process is not automated, so it might take a couple hours. You will be notified when it's done. If you see problems, features missing, etc..., please report them.

"The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you."

Same thing happens if you click Read More.

I think the chat tag (or not) might the only issue. As you say most of these are pretty small, and they're meant to be. The goal is to encourage players to come here on the forums, and maybe give us some feedback. We will not be handing out stupid donator superpowers. I see servers that give different models, more HP, more weapons... And I really don't want that. I hope everyone feels that way too.

Back to the tag, I understand it might make some names too long, or weird, and might even break stuff like tracking stats etc... Also, if you're already using a clan tag in front or after your name, well, you don't want something more. I just would like to find a way to instantly see who is a VM and who's not. It's obviously very useful information for us (time when regulars are playing, then we can organize events better), and for you guys, it's another small perk.

Maybe it can be something very small like * in front (like you mentioned), maybe it can be optional, and toggled on/off individually. I don't know. I don't want to be using colored chat because it might become confusing in chat. Colored names would be better, true, but chat needs to be team color. Good suggestion  :)

Thanks for all the feedback already.

It looks good. All these are benefits that will make regular members stand out without giving them any sort of game breaking powers. They're also small things that make the experience a lot better. The file uploading is a big bonus.

As for the in-game tags, I am not sure about this. You can attach a community tag like .hG or [hG] at the end of their name (ie: Ectoplasm.hG). Another way would just to attach a symbol on to their name (ie: Ectoplasm*). I think colored names would be good enough but it's up to the community to decide.

This is an exciting time for HG, and it will definitely drive more people to the site (with the "tag" on user names)

Tag ideas:

[HG] Username
hG- Username
HG- Username

Variances of the brackets can be used, etc. "HG" :HG: +HG+ =HG=

VM Benefits:

Forums:
  • Upload your own avatar (or link from external site)
  • Group Name color
  • Custom Text under Avatar
  • Create Own Albums in Gallery
  • Upload Own files in Downloads
  • Use the ShoutBox

In-Game:
  • Special tag in chat (needs to be very short, very simple, need suggestions)
  • Disable Server Ads (not all of them, but most)
  • Can use sprays (Rules still applies though: no offensive sprays)

VM: How-To:
  • Join our Steam Group. Accept Invite to our Members group.
  • Register on our Forums
  • Post at least once in the Forums (to introduce yourself)
  • Verify your SteamID with us.

If you have suggestions, please post them here. I'm not expecting this to go live before next week, maybe later. So we have plenty of time to improve this idea. We will try to get the process automated as much as possible, but it will probably be manually at first.

Sounds like a great idea, Plasma.

Looking forward to it.

Good idea.  we could identify regulars more easily this way and the amount of support we get.   Make sure we get verified and mature players the benefit of colors or clan tags though as it is like a double edged sword that if they abuse or play immaturely with the tag, it could bring the reputation of the server down as well.  It seems that we are all around similar age (or not) and that is why I like this server :)

EDIT:
Development stage: Alpha.
You may request VM status. Follow the instructions here. This is still alpha, expect delays after request. Some features may not work properly. Please report bugs!

--> New in-game perk Idea: Extend the AFK kick time for VMs. Plugin will give you more time before you're kicked from the server.

-- In Development --

We want to work on the community aspect to make sure regular players on the servers want to keep coming back, and also share feedback with us. We've made some progress with the steam group and on the forums. We want to encourage players to register and join the steam group without showering them with announcements, in-game ads and overpowered benefits in-game.

The Verified Member status will be completely free, no donation required or anything like that. You just need to register an account on the forums, join the steam group, and post once, preferably in a "Welcome" thread (TBCreated  ;) ) You also need to verify your SteamID with us and we will associate your forum account with your gameme page. It gives us some good feedback and allows us to track your activity in the community.

VM status will give some non-gameplay benefits. On the forums, a special color/name tag. Being able to create your own albums and upload media (sound, screenshots, etc...), and being able to upload small files through our download section. Allowed to choose your own avatar either uploading on the site, or linking from another site. VM status will be the first step to take more responsibility in the community (admins, donators, etc...).

We haven't decided the in-game benefits the VM status will offer. It will not affect gameplay in any way (no extra HP, extra weapons, hats or models). We were thinking of a special chat tag, or color in-game(No reserved slots however). Also, some in-game ads will be disabled for you (add us to your favorites, stuff like that, not all of them, but a lot)

If you like this idea (or don't), we would really appreciate if you could give us some feedback on this. About forum and in-game benefits, etc...

I hope this system will promote a more active community and reward our best players  :)
