General Discussion / Re: Killing Floor 2 free weekend / Stress Test
« on: December 14, 2015, 10:52:43 AM »
And the KF2 free weekend is over. I'll be removing the added KF2 servers later this morning, and the 2nd TF2 server will come back.

Hope some of you had the chance to give KF2 a try :)

General Discussion / Killing Floor 2 free weekend / Stress Test
« on: December 10, 2015, 02:54:56 PM »
I removed the 4th KF2 server as performance on the TF2 server was poor yesterday. If needed, I'll remove another. I don't expect to keep more than 2 KF2 servers after the free weekend anyway.

Tripwire is letting everybody play Killing Floor 2 for free this weekend, and since we already had one server hosting this game, I figured we could add a couple more during the traffic spike.

If you're not sure what KF2 is, it's an arena coop zombie shooter for up to 6 players. Players can pick perks, which give them access to different weapons. At the end of each wave, you can purchase better guns/tools, to fend off stronger foes. On the final wave, the team must defeat a boss. The game is still in Early Access, but there's quite a lot of different enemies and maps. They added new perks as well.

Unfortunately, there are no donor slots for now :(

General Discussion / Re: Maps... The Everlong Battle.
« on: October 21, 2015, 09:59:58 PM »
It's a good idea, and that's most likely what we'll end up doing once the final version of the mapchooser is ready. New custom maps to the rotation will only show up during prime time for a while (especially when admins are more likely to be present). If feedback is positive after a while, we'll add the map to the official rotation. If it's negative, we'll remove it and admins can decide to trigger a vote for it if they wish to give it another try.

Hey dopefisher,

At this point, no, it's a lot easier for me to manage donations via Paypal.
It's possible to gift a donor membership to somebody else. So you could trade items with someone else who then pays your membership for you via Paypal.

If you would like to know how to "gift" donor membership, let me know ;)

Payload Server / Re: New Vote System
« on: October 15, 2015, 04:52:36 PM »
Well, the way it should work is to try to integrate the maps with the most nominations (along with other random maps) to the next map vote. I need to double check the actual configs, but it should trigger when the timelimit reaches 5min or so. If it doesn't happen, then there might be a bug somewhere.
I definitely agree that the mapchooser should try to be a bit more smart about which maps it picks for voting. Right now, the current system doesn't do that. I'll see if I can combine another plugin with the current one.

We really need more feedback/suggestions on these changes, because the mapchooser might be one of the most important aspect for a successful server.

Servers Feedback / Re: Custom Maps/Additional Maps on the Payload Server

I'll make a real post later when I have a bit more time.

Quick reply:
I'll update the current maps to their latest versions soon. The new custom maps added a few months ago will be added to the map chooser list. New maps will be uploaded, but won't be on the official rotation. Admins will be able to switch manually.

Nominating maps isn't compatible with the map chooser we're using. The system we're using has been very helpful in the past, and still is for traffic reasons. I'll look into another mapchooser system, and will run tests on a separate server.

I understand concerns regarding map diversity, but please keep in mind custom maps attract less players in general, and I doubt we'll see anybody play on custom map X if the server is empty. There's a reason the server starts on badwater then goldrush. Yes, these maps are awfully boring for you guys who have been playing for years, but sadly Valve keeps making it more and more difficult to find new players. I'll explain more later.

TLDR: I read/understand your concerns and will be looking into solutions: updating maps, new custom maps, and a better mapchooser system.

News and Updates / Gun Mettle, Contracts, and Official Servers.
« on: July 02, 2015, 03:34:42 PM »
Warning: Big long useless rant incoming. Skip to last paragraph for actual important servers changes.
Awesome! The TF2 Dev team just released a big update, with a lot of server fixes, balance changes (for good or bad, we'll see), a new map and CS:GO style 3 months campaigns that includes Contracts.. err, wait, CS:GO style campaigns?!

Yes, that's right. What should be a fantastic patch (as in, finally more content instead of just new skins, hats, and taunts) is only disappointing, at least if you're the owner of a community server. This is MvM all over again: community servers will not be participating in Contracts, and obviously no rewards whatsoever. You will have to play on official Valve servers for that.

We've already received the reason (though it's been the same for two years now): Valve is afraid of cheating server owners, plugin coders, and other dishonest individuals. Their solution, every single time, is to simply cut all community servers from participating. That's the way things have been for CS:GO for a while, and that's how it's going to be for TF2 from now on, as I'm sure these new Campaigns will be extremely profitable, for both Valve and maps/models makers.

Instead of simply trying to find some kind of compromise, fixing their engine, tracking and punishing communities that cheat the system, they opt for the "nuclear option" (their words) Fallout style. It's sad, because that means I'll have to go play on some random Valve server, with strangers and potentially actual cheaters, until I've completed my weekly contracts and then come back to Hyperion. It's sad, because these kind of updates could really help the communities grow, especially small or new ones. But hey, we don't want to drop the prices of these ultra-rare level 5 kills-counting Strange special collection guns, now do we? The Steam market needs to stay pure. Oh and I urge you to read this update's comic; I think they don't even try to be ironic in these anymore.

Rant over. Sorry.

Still, it's a big patch, with a lot of very cool changes that all servers benefit from, and we really needed some changes as TF2 was getting a bit stale compared to other recent big releases.

No changes were made to the Payload server.

I've changed the Full Rotation server to a Gun Mettle server. This means it will go through the 4 maps introduced this patch, and follows the Gun Mettle gameplay changes. If it were an official server, Contracts would be live, but it's not, so don't expect your Campaign Coin to track anything while playing with us. You need to go on an official Valve server for that.

The above change is not permanent, it will depend on the server's traffic and popularity. We might add more maps to the rotation in the future, but I'm not sure we're allowed to if we wish to "participate" in this new Campaign.

Feel free to voice your thoughts and opinions, about this update, and the changes to our 2nd TF2 server.
Finally, I'll be starting our Summer Giveaway "campaign" soon. Probably next week, I still need to get back home ;) I hope you guys enjoy this new update! See you in-game!

Strange. But I'm glad it's working for you now :)

I've checked for potential new updates and even joined the servers. I don't have any issues whatsoever.
Make sure your client has all the required updates. Maybe try to verify game cache.

Hmm, I'm sorry ObliviousEagle, but you're not in our Verified Member database, at least on the account you're posting with right now.

What's your SteamID? Maybe you've used a different account here before. I can check for you.
Otherwise, you'll just have to submit another VM application.

Payload Server / Re: Nominate
« on: May 30, 2015, 12:01:22 AM »
Adding the nominate plugin to our current mapchooser system might be a bit complicated. It would be easier to add the new custom maps to the mapchooser itself. We're still evaluating which of all the new maps added are actually fun enough to be on the mapchooser list.

I'm not saying no to the nominate plugin in the future... it just requires a lot of testing to make sure it doesn't conflict with our current mapchooser system.
