Helpful Mods for new players?

Greetings folk,

I was wondering if anyone can suggest mods to assist a new player in learning/playing the game? In particular assistance using the map and finding locations would be most helpful. A special request that any mods suggested work with the current/up to date version. I wouldn't know where to start updating an NS2 mod.  :)
