Merging modes/mix mode

Don't know if it's been discussed here or not, but since the CP server has trouble getting going and staying full for extended time, how about merging the two? Or doing a mix mode with ctf or something in it as well? I know a lot of people who play on the Payload server have discussed it, but I thought we should post on here and see what everyone's thoughts are about that.

I agree, barnblitz, hoodoo, goldrush, badwater, get hella boring, new maps/game modes would be for the better in my opinion.

We're talking about the 2nd server, right?

If you could make your own mapcycle, what would it be? Or let's say we keep the voting system. Which maps do you want to see? Also let's try to keep in mind, we need to get a lot more traffic on that server, so we'll have to play the most "popular" maps to start with.

I don't mind trying to mix game modes, in my experience, it doesn't work well on 32 slot servers (except a 24/7 badwater/dustbowl maybe). However, since server 2 is dead, it doesn't hurt to try ;)

CTF: Double Cross, Turbine/(Pro), Sawmill (There's of course 2Fort, but I anyone I know refuses to play it, but it would work to help the server since people love it so much)
CP: Badlands, Coldfront, Fastlane, Foundry, Freight, Granary, Gullywash, Well
      Degroot, Dustbowl, Egypt, Gorge, Gravel  Pit, Junction, Mountainlab/Mannor, Steel
Koth: Harvest, Lakeside, Nucleus, Viaduct
Payload: Badwater, Frontier, Gold Rush, Hoodoo, Thunder Mountain, Upward, Barnblitz/(Pro)
       Hightower, Nightfall, Pipeline

Man, that's a lot of maps. I think it'd be nice to have to this kind of variety and a lot to choose from. There are, of course, many I didn't put on here, but I'm mainly picking ones I know or have experienced. If anyone else has suggestions let's here them! There are lots of good custom maps I'm sure people would enjoy, but gotta keep it in control somehow. Too many customs can kill it.

I don't feel it's the lack of maps and variety that cause the CP server be as populated. I think it's just the game mode itself. On PL, everyone is working towards one goal, and that's moving the cart. The goal is more centralized and easier for people to follow. On CP it can be a crap shoot with who actually knows how to work together to capture points. That being said, I'd love to give CP maps another go. We have a large enough community now that probably gets tried of PL all the time and want to try something new.

hi
yea i am in full agreement a normal map rotation with the same voting system that you have on the cp server now is a go.  we end up playing the same maps over and over and maybe a full rotation would help and attract other player I have mentioned this a few times (may be harder to do bit its worth a shot we have a server that is empty all the time anyway)

I think that most of the people play on the server for the game mode and I don't think that mixing it would help but we could try  :) it doesn't hurt anyone... And we need new maps as Meical said to many custom maps could kill the server maybe replace the least popular custom maps for new ones?

And if we mix game modes I think KOTH could work better than CP.

I dunno, I think most people come for the company. I love payload, and heck, Goldrush has been and remains a favorite since day one, but the lack of any other modes means that I'll rely heavily on my usual strategies on a payload map which means I keep playing not just the same maps but the same way with the usual classes over and over. Worth a thought.

Unfortunately mixing game modes doesn't work very well. It might be fine if we had a larger community. I don't mind trying to merge game modes on the 2nd server, but I doubt the issue is maps/modes; it just is very difficult to start a new server for TF2 these days.
