Title: pl_Thundermountain error
Post by: ATARIS on December 30, 2012, 05:54:14 PM
Just a key observation, but I've noticed everytime the teams "flip" at the end of the round for this map...the server crashes.  I may be the only one that notices cause this is my favorite map.  Just thought I'd bring it up.

I hear this from other players as well. I'm not sure if it happens due to the team flip tho.

Interesting.

Earlier the server crashed because of: ED_Alloc No Free Edicts
We had this error happened before, but lately it wasn't an issue anymore. If it happens again on thundermountain, please let us know.

I've been out of town on vacation (and deathly ill with an ear infection and laryngitis), but I noticed this just happened again just now when the teams switched....server crashed on this map.  Just thought I'd bring it up =]

This is strange, but yes, the same exact error: ED_Alloc No Free Edicts
I'll try to look into the issue.

So it crashes when one team wins/loses and then switches sides?

Blame Linux Dedications? :P

That is correct.

Just a note, blue team completed all three maps and the teams flipped and there was no crash...

the server needs to be debugged, maybe a few .dll files need to be added with an sm extension, im guession edicts have limits maybe they could be lowered or set higher. from my knowledge its only a source error, this includes all games running from the source engine, should be something out there that could fix the problem....crazy that even electronics get wear and tear! my suggestion is cut out or dont vote thundermoutain for now, unless you want to take your chances of your highest point score in-one-life becoming void to valve since you didnt complete the entire map due to a crash xD

somethings wrong with the third switch. it's always on the third switch. it just crashed again.

Hmm, this is somewhat new though, isn't it?
It's been happening for like what? 2-3 weeks max? And it seems to be getting worse. It might be something Valve introduced in a patch during the Xmas update. What is strange however is that I haven't seen this particular crash reported at all (I mean the ED_Alloc No Free Edicts is known, but usually happens on custom maps). I'll try to find more information.

Another weird thing, it doesn't seem to happen on the Votation server. Then again, Thundermountain doesn't play as often. For now, we'll consider removing thundermountain from the rotation temporarily... I'll get back to you guys.

Plasma, please dont' remove Thundermountain!!!! I love the map and don't mind the crash if the teams switch (it's rare anyway).

Post by: Plasma on January 15, 2013, 08:53:15 PM
Heh, I don't like to remove thundermountain, there aren't many official PL maps to begin with, and you guys already complain about playing the same maps over and over again :)

I know it's somewhat rare, but it's annoying when it happens around midnight like last night for example. Then, it's almost impossible to get enough players back and the server dies. I'm still looking for more information before making a decision. With some luck, it's just something Valve will fix in the next Hats/promo item updates.

well server crashed again just now. and it wasnt the third reload, i think it was just the 2nd.

I asked the server if we should just take the map off until we figure it out, they all said yeah we should just take it off.

Well, you know, that's maybe not up to you or us. Server admins deal with it all the time.

You have the have the game, and behind the game is what is called a 'console' behind the console is binary's, straight up binary's make the game the game, also not to include that binary's make up computers communications with numbers such as '0' and '1' that's easy to understand, then you have the manual console for human hands which corrects these binary's through consoles, we can calls these .dll + many more files if you like, these are in all computers, but with my blind intelligence on the Valveâ„¢ system, there are updates quite a lot, also the other time i checked TF2 is a 1oGB game. Dosen't seem it, but with the security of VAC server updates,,,,,,, bro hackers make like 1ooo virus's everyday, i'm not sure how they make money off it or what there plan is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but its more than a headache to Steam, it keeps there lips cracks with dehydration knowing they have to update constantly, if you want a game with legit bypass hacks as in which the game barely gets updated try Call of Duty, its not a Valve produced game, but Steam promotes the game, maybe it would suit you? Any objections,,,,,,,,,?

Noticed you said the server 'almost' crashed Chainspell in the shoutbox. I wouldn't have the slightest clue to be honest my good sir, Ive only started playing TF2 again since Christmas though i allowed the updates to continue while i was logged into steam preventing me to download this phat file game,,,,,,,again. Point being, Ive never followed the bugs/fixes. I could investigate the cause, but seriously all i see in the forum is moaning, plus Ive given the game up for a bit, once you sober up it sucks,,,,,,,same maps, same shit, the only exciting thing about it is the random crits and finding items, yet i find none (what bullshit is this?) As the class i choose, i try, and i try to try new things none of that groundhog day stuff unless its some serious game. My advice? Yeah brah continue to vote thundermoutain, let it crash, its healthy for your server, makes less players visit and drops the position of the server more than 7 places on the worldwide scene. Keep up the good work hyperion!

yeah we should take it out and bring it back once a week to see if it would still crash. kills the server and pretty much a big kill joy lol

We've removed thundermountain from the map rotation for now. The crashes are happening way too often, and it's affecting negatively the servers in general. We'll be running tests to try to figure out the problems, and we'll try to get thundermountain back ASAP. Sorry :(

Dave and I are debugging the thundermountain problem for now, so thundermountain will remain on rotation while we test different solutions. As usual, please let us know if the server crashes on this map, and if you can, specify date, time, which server and timeleft on map (or how many rounds played, basically when it happened).

Thanks guys!

So unfortunate.  I really hope whatever bug it is gets fixed.  Thundermountain was actually the reason I found you guy, but I do know how it crashes 50% of the time we play on it.

Hope it gets fixed soon =[   I think it's a great set of maps...

I've emailed Valve about it. I'm afraid the map is just not made for 32 players.
I'm thinking of maybe adding a new custom map instead, looking at beerbowl from the custom map thread; it's the next one with the most votes currently. Always open to suggestions :)

Do you think the recent update might've fixed this map?
Title: Re: pl_Thundermountain error
Post by: Plasma on July 11, 2013, 05:57:00 PM
Sigh, unfortunately, it doesn't look like it.
Servers are now crashing on goldrush with the same error.

We're not the only ones though, but this is a big issue. I'll keep looking.

Valve released a new patch today, supposedly fixing the exact error we were getting on thundermountain and goldrush. Obviously, we need to test if they actually fixed the problem, so we've added thundermountain back to the mapcycle.

Seen thundermountain at least twice on the main server.  No crashes so far!!!! ;D

Unfortunately, Votation crashed a few minutes ago just after changing to goldrush. No errors, this time though. Server just quit. I'll keep an eye on these crashes, hopefully Valve can continue to fix the issues on Monday.

On the main server I've seen Thundermountain played 3 times without a crash....hopefully it'll stay that way. But thank you so much for adding it back into the rotation....a lot of us got a bit excited seeing it as a vote option hah

Haven't experienced any crashes on Thundermountain, but I have have noticed that only one team gets to play offense and defense only once. After the round is over it automatically goes to a new map, but doesn't switch the teams like the other maps do. Not sure if this is normal or not.
Title: Re: pl_Thundermountain error
Post by: Plasma on October 06, 2013, 11:02:33 AM
That's why we're not getting as many crashes on thundermountain as we used to.
Thundermountain doesn't work well with 32 players. After a while, there are too many entities spawned, and we've noticed crashes once team switches sides. We had to disable the map for a while too.

The only solution that seems to work is to lower the time played on thundermountain. Sure, there's no time to switch sides, but at least the server isn't crashing and we can still have the map on the rotation :)

Urgh, Thundermountain has been crashing Payload #1 almost every single time (same issue, if attacking team loses the first round, server crashes when teams switch). It makes no sense; no changes were made.

I wonder if Valve did something 1-2 updates ago. Right now, I'm afraid we're going to have to remove the map once more from the rotation. I'll do more research on the problem. Sorry again.

Thundermountain should now be out of the rotation. I'm going to do more research and try to find a solution. Sorry about that. The map just doesn't work well with 32 players.

Damn. Really liked that map. Loved playing spy on that little spire in the middle of the map.
