[small]note: to vote you have to be logged in. POLL LAST RESET: 08/21/13[/small]
For pictures and description just click the link to tf2maps.net. I made a 30 seconds video of each map, nothing fancy just a walk through to the last point.

Woa, amazing work Chainspell! I'll take a look at your selection tomorrow, and share my thoughts. With SteamPipe, downloading custom maps should be a lot faster, so it's definitely time to add a few custom maps to our map selection.
If you guys know some of these maps, let us know! I must admit I only play the official maps.
-
Awesome work Chainspell! I'm looking forward to the results.
-
We can make server #2 a vanilla server, all official maps, call it Payload Official Maps. and we can call server #1 Payload Mix haha :D or something catchy.
-
Most likely we will add the custom maps with the most votes to the Payload server, yes.
The reason is mostly because the Votation server isn't as popular as Payload, and we still need help from Quickplay to drive traffic. Payload server however could really benefit for a wider map selection, and I'm sure everybody would agree ;)
So thank you to everybody that voted already, and share this thread with your friends and other regulars you may know. The more votes, the better the map selection!
-
I really like all of those maps except maybe deadend, I would be very happy to have
any of these maps added to the rotation. The more the better!
-
Haha, so far, it seems everybody that voted wants to basically play them all (except maybe pier with only 4 votes). Well, we can add 2 to the map rotation and change every week or two. Then, we'll know which ones are the most interesting and we'll keep them permanently.
-
I think this is about as many votes as we can get lol. good enough :) Ty for everybody who has already voted!
-
We are getting ready to add 4 new maps to the Payload server based on current votes:
pl_borax_rc2
pl_deadwood
pl_halfacre
pl_swiftwater_final_rc2
ETA: tomorrow night.
We'll release more infomation soon, and how to download our custom content manually if you don't want to wait in-game (though we're using a fastdownload webserver, so it should be fine).
-
The four maps below should now appear on the map votes during optimal conditions (between noon and 1 am, and 23 players or above):
pl_borax_rc2
pl_deadwood
pl_halfacre
pl_swiftwater_final_rc2
Keep in mind, playing on custom maps will disable quickplay for the duration of the map, so there may be a drop in players while on those maps.
Please let us know if there are any problems.

awesome thanks dave!
-
I've added a rule that will prevent two custom maps from being played back to back, to give quickplay a chance to kick back in.
Also fixed a bug in the map chooser. Please anyone let me know if you see weird behavior in the map chooser.
-
The new maps have been a really positive addition, guys. Thank you sincerely for the variety that you're providing!

Glad you like them! We'll obviously try a few more from that list. See which ones are the most popular and fun.
Obviously, it would help if we got more feedback on the current 4, but at least there's a bit more map diversity now. :)

Yeah definitely. we should have a schedule to update/add/remove new/old maps every first week of the month. We can call it Hyperion's Monthly Server Update. We can release a simple server changes notes. and slowly meld into it new features that players want.
One thing I would like changed is the ability to talk to your teammates when you're dead. Also maybe later on we can add a feature that let's us talk to the other team at the end of the round.
We can add/remove one of those features every first of the month. That way we introduce something new every month. Even if it's just small things, like updating the MOTD layout. One thing I would like to add later is an updated guideline for acceptable player & admin behavior (publicly viewable). Our server can boast mature admins, where admins just leave players and the servers alone. Only in defense of the server do admin powers kick in. BTW that's one of the BIG reasons why players love our server.
anyways those are just thoughts :)
oh yeah another thing to boast about is we're one of the few servers that don't operate for profit. I should make a banner of that lol. We can add that to our Server Monthly Update Notes. Like a rundown of who donated last month and how the money was used. I think this is where our donator/player appreciation will shine!
-
As much as I myself would love to talk to teammates when dead, I think it wouldn't be fair especially when you get killed by a spy or whateveretc. Unless you are talking about something else....just my opinion though.
Love the new maps I honestly think they breathe new life into the server sometimes. I notice they frequently release updates to them in other servers so yes I agree a monthly update would be neat.
Thanks for the additions though!

yeah agreed. it's a subject that needs to be discussed at least. This is the only server that I know of that has it disabled.
-
We removed Borax from the custom map list for now.
Out of the 4 added custom maps, Borax was definitely the most unpopular. I've rarely it seen played to the end, and most times the map scared everybody away even before the first round was over.
Looking at the current map votes, it would seem beerbowl is the next one with the most votes. Thoughts?
-
I propose we add 4 new maps to the rotation by the end of July. Perhaps 2 custom maps +2 standard maps to choose from the votation menu.
These are my recommendations:

Definitely a good time to add one or two new maps (since we removed one).
-
I don't know if this is workable but I would like to see the new maps be made RTV exempt for a period of time until people get used to them. Newer players will play a new map for 10 seconds and want to RTV. To go play Goldwater or Badrush for the tenth time that night. It would give people a chance to learn the choke points and sentry positions from more experienced players. The map Metroplis b5 is a map people will bitch like hell when the round starts and then it starts to get REALLY quiet because it's a really great in your face battle map.
-
Greetings, folks.
I haven't played cp_gravelpit in a while. Would like to see that with Hyperion's players... :P
Also, is there a list of the current rotations for the servers posted somewhere?
Regards,
Falc
-
Hey Falconeer,
Right now, our two servers are focused on payload maps only. If there was a high demand for another mode, like capture points, we could try to do something different, a new server or changes to Votation. I'm open to suggestions, but the goal is to at least get enough traffic so that the server isn't empty and useless.
The current map list on Payload is: all official pl and plr maps and a few customs: pl_swiftwater_frc2, pl_borax_rc2 (removed, not popular), pl_deadwood, pl_halfacre.
The current map list on Votation is: all official pl maps
-
Hey Vic-Dog,
It's a good idea. We'll think about it, and see if we can implement something like that. I'll let you guys know.
-
Right now, our two servers are focused on payload maps only.
Ah, was not aware of that. I enjoy CP maps but the 'clientele' on the servers is more important.
-
Well, I'm not against having a Capture Point server. I'm just not sure there's enough demand for one. It's something we're often thinking about... "should we open a 3rd TF2 server?" I'd hate to start one and see it be empty all the time.
-
My recommendation is to add 2 maps (beerbowl & cashworks), plus 1 map called Borneo (the map maker is a regular on the server and wants us to try it). Borneo was made in 2011. I was thinking maybe we can try it for a week and see if players like it.
the updated MOTD banners for the new maps are all set. Perhaps we can come back in August and look at what maps are causing problems for the server.

Loved the splash pages....but didn't see these new maps go live yet?
-
They're not live yet. Need to do a bit more testing. Soon :)
-
I'd hate to start one and see it be empty all the time.
Totally agree. My observations have been Payload is full most of the time, with votation getting the overflow. Instead of getting a new server, perhaps turn votation into an experimental server? See what gets played a lot on votation and use that to select maps for payload (the Hyperion 'flagship' server). :P
-
I voted for all of them because I am tired of playing the same maps over and over.
-
We currently have 7 custom maps in the mapcycle, and we've made it easier for those maps to pass. You guys still need to vote for them though :)
We'll keep adding new maps if feedback is positive.
-
Can we update the swiftwater map? This is the UGC version which is newer and more balanced. http://www.ugcleague.com/files_tf2h.cfm. It also fixes the bug on the door where people have a hard time getting out of spawn.
The poll is now reset, and the following maps are available for voting:
pl_boundary_final
pl_box_canyon_b3
pl_deadend_b3
pl_everest_v3_b4
pl_manngrove_rc5
pl_metropolis_b5
pl_pier_b11_fix
pl_repository_rc3
pl_rivercrossing_rc2a
pl_stovepipe_b3
-
(Swiftwater was updated to the UGC version. You will need to download the new map; you can also use our MapDownloader tool. Both the fr2 and ugc versions are still on the server: ugc is the current one in mapcycle.)
-
So just FYI to everyone, our schedule will be to add 2-3 more new maps in the middle of september. Probably figure out what to do with server #2 by that time as well.
Vote up! Looks like we're gonna get to try that box canyon one :)
Note from earmilk:
8:27 PM - e a r m i l k ᵗʰᶜ: should change pl_barnblitz to pl_barnblitz_pro so that last part isnt as stalematey
We'll probly have to, I haven't looked at it yet.
-
Where is pl_barnblitz_pro.
-
^Agreed.
-
We're scheduled to add new maps and/or remove old ones, and/or update map versions in the middle of January. So let us know what you guys like!
-
I know you guys want quickplay traffic to help fill up the server, and that's completely understandable. However, is there any possibility of removing only some stock maps and using others to fill the quickplay criteria? To be specific, I have literally never seen a positive response o pl_hoodoo or pl_thundermountain, while pl_goldrush is only picked when there are no other options.
-
I enjoy Hoodoo and Thundermountain wayyyy more than Badwater.
-
Just curious but why not just add all the maps? Since the server is by vote, shouldn't it automatically funnel out the bad maps just by not getting enough votes?
-

We're trying to introduce the server regulars to new maps slowly so they're not overwhelmed. :)
By the way, these are the 3 maps we're planning to add:

Thank you so much. It's honestly sort of sad with them on there, I dont think they've ever been played.
-
As Chainspell posted earlier, the map list for Payload #1 has been updated. Three new custom maps and we removed the three PLR maps. You can check the updated mapcycle here: http://hyperiongaming.org/index.php?topic=539.0
(We just need to make some changes to the mapchooser plugin before you guys can actually vote for these new maps) Custom maps can only be played on Payload #1 for now.
-
awesome !! Can't wait to try them out :D Especially box canyon. Thanks for the variety guys :D
-
to do: update borneo map:
http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=17011
-
I can't join the server as it keeps saying "...missing [new map name here]...". Should the game not have updated those for me?
We should have a zip file with all current maps in it to simplify situations like this.
*off to manually install missing maps*
-
Are you sure your settings allow for custom content downloads?
As for an offline map downloader, we already have one here:
http://hyperiongaming.org/index.php?topic=539.0
Scroll down a bit and download the MapDownloader tool. Just follow the instructions and it will download all current custom maps.

I got severely bored of payload already. Mix things up a bit. Just imagine the interesting ways the quality players in hyperion do in capture the flag or king of the hill maps. I have been playing in this server for so long that "push the cart" is engraved in my mind when i think about TF2. TF2 is MUCH more than just payload.
-
I'm with you Chuy. Change is a good thing.
I get this image in my head of a video I saw back in the 80's. It was a dog pushing a rock with his nose and that tool from that terrible TV show was dubbed over saying "pushing a rock, pushing a rock, pushing a rock...." in a "dumb voice". It's kinda how I feel with payload. "Pushing the cart, pushing the cart, pushing the cart, pushing the cart...." /dumb dog voice
Yup, change would be good.
Maybe a "non payload day" day. Weekly, monthly, something.

agreed. We've been talking about adding a CP server. I dont know if making a mix PL/CP map is a good thing. You add variety but you also alienate people who only like PL maps or only CP maps. So you end up with one server trying to satisfy everybody--and so you're stuck in the cycle.
I say let the player choose what kind of server he wants to play in at that time, PL exclusive or CP exclusive.
-
I'm all for trying a CP server. I don't like mixing game modes though, it just doesn't work well for configuration purposes. I also think it makes more sense to pick a server based on game mode.
--
Right now, it would most likely mean replacing Payload #2 with CP maps (along with a name change obviously).
There are a few questions such as max slots, and other details, but that will just require some tweaks as we go along.
--
My main goal is to avoid running empty servers. At this point, I could add 2-3 additional TF2 servers running a bunch of different configurations. Most likely, these servers would be empty 80% of the time because our community doesn't need that many slots. Basically, I'd rather grow slowly than aim too high and waste money.
I'd rather have only 2 servers with 24/7 active players than 10-15 servers empty 60% of the time.
--
We probably should start a new thread, but it would interesting to know if you guys prefer 24 or 32 slots (or anything in between) for CP, a static mapcycle or a map vote like we're currently using on Payload, alltalk or not, include custom maps or not, etc...
-
Totally agree with the 2 working servers vs multiple with empty servers.
A new thread may be in order for all those questions. I know I have my thoughts on the matter.
-
yea. server #2 is mostly empty. It would be good to have a payload and CP server. That way, the regulars dont have to be bunching into one server. It would bring a good mix. I am definitely going spend a good time in CP server before going back to payload. And i dont think it should be server #2 anymore. Both servers have their own game mode.
-
Ok, I'll take a stab at these here. I really like this idea of a CP server! I'm kinda school girl giddy over the idea actually. :D
24 or 32 slots (or anything in between) for CP,
a static mapcycle or a map vote,
alltalk or not,
include custom maps or not, etc...
Start with 24. It's what the game is designed for. You can always change it later, either way. It's harder to go from 32 to 24 in my opinion rather than the other way around. PL being 32 already and what regs are used to, wouldn't be as "drastic" for the regs as I think going from 32 to 24 would be. Just my opinion of course.
I'd like to see static, at least for a trial period. With the current vote system, I find we just keep cycling the same maps over and over and over. I'm quite sick of a few of them. I could live with never playing Goldrush again for example. (Though admittedly it's not won quite as much lately when I've been on.)
Not! A thousand times not! Team based games are pointless when the other team knows what's coming. The only time alltalk is appropriate IMO is after the round is finished and you are waiting for the map to change. (How SOP had it and what I am used to. I kinda miss it actually.)
I'm all for custom maps. Until Hyperion I've always played servers as Valve intended, excluding 32 slot. Most of my time has been on 32 slot servers. The rest was default however. So no customs. I've enjoyed the customs since I started playing here. A breath of fresh air if you will.
Well, that's my thoughts on the matter. I hope other members share their thoughts and we get good feedback on this, no matter the opinion. Again, I am rather excited for it to happen so please speak up anyone in support. I know I'd appreciate it. :)
-
If you're thinking about a purely cp server, I'd reccomend mixing it up a bit with some koth or something.
-
I've been a bit busy, and Valve has decided to make things more complicated for us with some big changes to Quickplay. I'll make a post about your suggestions above for a CP server and Quickplay soon.
-
I think a CP server would be great. I like all talk personally but sometimes it's also nice to be able to switch teams when you don't want to hear someone on voice lol. I would just go with 32 players .. the more better! Otherwise i think we have enough donators that what happens when all 24 are people that have donated?. Much less chance of that on 32.
-
Yeah I'm going to change my 24 slot opinion to 32. 24 might actually feel weird after all this time.
-
I've played all of these maps myself in a 32 player setting and they have been a lot of fun in my experiences. Lots of good maps out there that I think the community would enjoy.

I recommend checking out some of these maps, sure some people on the server would love a throwback to dustbowl on the payload server. Some might not be popular among the community but they're worth a try.
-
I played Millstone before, I didn't hate it.
-
Alright, thanks DrunkUncle, I'll download them and load them later.
I'll try to pick one or two to add to our rotation.
-
I like Dustbowl a lot. 2 good teams can have some great rounds.
Everest is a map I've played many times as well, Another good choice.
-
I was so happy the other day when I saw the map vote was all custom maps.
-
Words of wisdom from your Drunk Uncle! Different maps are hard to get people to play, but more fun in the end.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing some of these new maps in rotation. Should be fun.
-
New custom maps have been added. They're on the Payload server, but not available in the mapchooser yet. We're still working on that. Hoping to have them ready tomorrow or Thursday. In the meantime, you can see the new Rotation here: http://hyperiongaming.org/index.php?topic=539.0
As you can see, 7 new maps have been added, and 3 were removed (pl_deadwood, pl_metropolis_b5 and pl_manngrove_rc5). Barnblitz_pro has been added as well, but we might have to keep the official version in the rotation (easiest solution, but we might be able to replace the official version with the pro completely).

The new maps are now on the mapchooser, and will show up during map votes. Please bear in mind that the mapchooser won't pick all the new custom maps in a row. It depends on time of day, number of players currently on the server and the last few maps played. Best time for custom maps is prime time in the evening.
I'd like to try to keep all maps suggestions and feedback in the same thread, as we already have a few different topics talking about the same thing scattered around the boards, please post your suggestions/thoughts here in this thread.
I'll be merging/closing other threads talking about custom maps.

Thank you for the new maps. They are refreshing. ;D

Thanks for the new maps. I have liked all of them that I have had the chance to play on except for the everest one.

These new maps have been great, this is another one that I'm sure many have played and will recognize: pl_pier

Also, the deplane map isn't a very good map, has one really bad corner that is a terrible choke and its really bad when 32 people are being squeezed into it.

Agreed on this point. It seems so strange that this would be their final version of this map. The rest of the map is so open and has many access points. Maybe there's a newer version? Because, besides that one choke, I think it's a good map.

Since lots of people like badwater I would like to see Pl_retawdab added which is a mirror image of badwater, but plays like a different map. (http://www.gamemaps.com/img/addons/tf2/ss/mirrored_maps_-_pl_retawdab_1635_1.jpg)
Based on the popularity of badwater i believe this would be very successful.

Hey guys, so I was talking to Enforcer about trying to get some more maps on the server, there are quite a few custom payload maps that I think the server would really enjoy. I simply grabbed what I know plays well on other servers, but of course not all of them may be good for us. I ordered these a little bit. Some of them are already on the server and or they are not updated. These are all the current versions and their download links. There is a small handful that I have never actually played on a server, just a run through on my own to make sure there isn't any massive issues. I realize I have listed some that we already have, but I do know we may have one or two of these maps that may not have their most current verisons.
Also at the bottom I have a couple of gimmicky/joke maps that actually are pretty fun when everyone wants to have a break from the real serious tf2. Do not know if there would be any interest in that at all, but they made be something to consider if we ever have a time where we are not playing for reals.
Let me know if you see any issues with the maps, I know that sometimes a patch can completely break a map and have it crash, but sadly I have no way to test these on my own on a dedicated server. I actually have a.... really big ~20gig folder of custom maps (not just payload) from when I was doing map testing on 2fort2furious (my old home server before it was shutdown) many moons ago. I had an idea of possibly trying to get some of the really good ones added to the full rotation server and possibly setting up a day when we can try out some less than serious maps with alltalk on or something fun. Just a thought I had, dunno if that would be of interest to anyone else. Also, I realize that thing is quite big, and these are just my cherry picked ones, there is a lot more, and I know I've forgotten about a few really good ones.
These maps will likely be enjoyed by most, and are highly rated and or also fairly popular within the custom map servers.
