News and Annoucements / VM Beta Started!
« on: September 24, 2011, 02:44:37 PM »
// VM Beta is now live! To apply, either click on the Become a VM block on the Home page (right block), or follow the following link. You can use the Contact page to ask questions or if you need help. [dot]See you in game![/dot] //

We've been hard at work on developing the Verified Member (VM) feature for the past couple weeks, and it's ready to enter the Beta phase. Read about it below.

What is Verified Membership?
Verified Membership is a way for us to reward committed players. Players who register and post on our forum are eligible to become a VM. As a VM, a player in-game receives a special tag, ability to use sprays, and removal of many server ads. It also grants many forum privileges.

What does VM Cost?
It's free!

When is VM Beta available?
VM Beta is now available. [dot]This means the old application method is obsolete.[/dot]

Ease of Use
Forum Members apply using a form on the front page, and Admins approve the request with the click of a button. Within minutes, our custom server plugin grants you server privileges.

History
Our first iteration involved a lot of manual labor to invite people to the VM forum group, to the steam group, and to the server group. Also, it was a headache for forum members to apply to the forum's VM group. With VM Beta, most of that is now automated.

Complains/Bans / Complaints and Bans Information Thread

Complaints and Bans

This is an information thread for complaints and bans.

Complaints

If you have a complaint against another player, you may send an email to admin@hyperiongaming.org . Do not post on the forums about complaints toward another player. Here are the guidelines:
  • Before you submit a complaint, read our Server Rules.
  • Include the player's in-game name and SteamID (ie. STEAM_0:0:12345). You can find the player's SteamID in-game by typing status in console
  • Describe the issue
  • Include links to materials such as pics, videos, and demos
Please be objective when submitting a complaint. A heavily opinionated message will only cloud the issue.

Ban Appeals:

You can submit a ban appeal directly on our SourceBans page here. Read the first two guidelines below before submitting a ban appeal.

You may also post in this forum. Here are the guidelines:
  • Before you post, check our SourceBans page for information on why you were banned.
  • Read our Server Rules.
  • Include your name and SteamID
  • Describe why you should be unbanned

Submit a Ban:

If you have definite proof against a cheater or hacker, you can submit a ban directly on our SourceBans page here. Please be sure to include a demo, or links to videos or pics.

See this thread for how to record a demo.

Admin Application

Hi guys. We are looking for admins for our servers for all time zones.

An admin's main responsibility is to keep the server enjoyable for our players. An admin is also a community member and a representative of HyperionGaming.

What we're looking for in an applicant:
  • Consistency and activity: You need to have played on our servers for at least 30 days and accumulated at least 24 hours of game time on our servers.
  • Experience playing TF2/NS2: In order to catch cheaters, you need to know what is and isn't possible in TF2/NS2 and FPS games in general
  • Maturity
  • Good Written Communication Skills: i.e. You should be able to chat with players without pissing them off

An admin's responsibilities include:
  • Enforcing the server rules
  • Watching out for cheaters and exploiters. This sometimes requires spectating
  • Monitoring voice comms and chat for spam and bad language
  • Assisting players in-game when possible

Your level of commitment is entirely up to you. If you're committed to being an admin, you'll go further and gain more responsibility.

How to Apply:

Payload Server / Upward vs Barnblitz
« on: September 07, 2011, 02:56:59 AM »
Just wondering what you guys think of these two maps.

Upward is the 1-stage map where the cart starts at the bottom of a hill and moves in a long spiral upward.
Barnblitz is the 1-stage map set in a snowy area

Payload Server / Payload Maps
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:23:50 AM »
What I'd like to do is occasionally "promote" a map, which will increase its likelihood of being chosen. The map could be brand new, or it could be a map that doesn't get played often.

Which payload maps would you guys like to see played more often?

News and Updates / In the Works
« on: August 29, 2011, 03:14:55 AM »
A lot has been going on lately. Since we put up the Payload server, we've been modifying server plugins to tailor them to our needs. Here's what we're currently working on:

Class Balance: This plugin offers a dynamic and very customizable approach to limiting classes. It also sends notifications to players if a class is overflowed. We currently only plan on targeting a few classes. More info in the future.

Mapchooser Advanced: Further extends our own version of mapchooser exended, adding a great deal more depth and control to how maps are chosen, ensuring players always have an enjoyable map to play next.

Donator Perks: Slot reservations and preferential treatment by certain mods, as well as access to commands such as votekick, voteban, and others.

General Discussion / Server Rules
« on: August 19, 2011, 07:01:54 PM »
The rules are in place to ensure players have an enjoyable time on the server.

The TF2 server rules are as follows:
  • No foul language. Be polite and respect all players.
  • No douchebag behavior. No offensive sprays or names.
  • Do not impersonate another player or clan.
  • No racism. No name calling.
  • No cheating, hacking and exploiting.
  • Do not stack teams. No spawn camping.
  • Respect all admins and do not pretend to be one.

Regarding the first rule, some cursing is allowed, but for example, repeatedly cursing at someone is typically going too far.

Feel free to post any questions or comments on the rules here.

Servers Feedback / Class Balance and Class Limits
« on: August 19, 2011, 06:48:00 PM »
The most common complaint on the server is about too many people playing one class. On the payload server we use a Class Limit plugin. Currently only the spy class is limited, and this is because we found that too many spies, especially good ones, would make games unfun.

Feel free to discuss anything regarding class balance or class limits here.

Servers Feedback / Plugins Feedback
« on: August 19, 2011, 06:35:52 PM »
We run many mods, some of them being custom, on our server. We are constantly tweaking them, and getting feedback is an important part of getting their settings right.

If you have any feedback or comments, please post it here.

Here are some mods in particular I would like feedback for:
  • Mapchooser (the map vote that appears near the end of a map)
  • Auto Balance/Scramble
